This year marks 160 years since the extraordinary events at Eureka etched a unique place in our nation’s history.

As the home of Eureka, Ballarat East has a variety of events, exhibitions, competitions and performances on offer.

Supported by the State Government of Victoria and the City of Ballarat to commemorate this milestone events include – Eureka Day, Family Fun Fair and Eureka Weekend Sat 6th & Sun 7th Dec.

Some great events being held across the city, and at MADE in Ballarat East.

EUREKA HALL OF DEBATE

The Art Gallery of Ballarat are offering school and community groups the opportunity to discover and debate the social, moral and political issues surrounding the Eureka events and subsequent treason trials, under the expert guidance of a ‘judge’. Suitable for groups of 25 to 30. Groups must be booked in to this activity in time to receive their preparation kits. Special Teacher PD session, Friday 5 December, 5PM.

Led by Wathaurung elder, Uncle Bryon Powell, a welcome to country and smoking ceremony.

RAISING OF THE RECREATED EUREKA FLAG

Hand-stitched flag by Eureka Stockade descendants and the Ballarat community to be raised on a recreated Eureka flagpole.

FAMILY FUN FAIR

Enjoy the in?atable Kiddiepillar, Giant Jungle Maze, Abseiling Wall and craft activity. Grab a bite to eat from the featured local vendors onsite or from Saltbush Kitchen and join the family on the picnic lawn.

Live music throughout the afternoon – The Whizbang Orchestra, MISTER WHISKERS and his dog SMIGGY ®, Motor City Sounds,The Virginia Slims, Ballarat SKA Orchestra.

Antique appraisals available bring your family heirloom connected to Ballarat or Eureka and local antique authenticator Mr David Senior will appraise. Items must be able to be carried onsite. Large furniture or heavy items cannot be appraised.

A ceremony at the Ballaarat Old Cemetery, with diggers and soldiers, to commemorate the 160th Anniversary.

DEMANDING DEMOCRACY (with Eureka’s Children)
