Council Mtg on 5 Highvista Grove

Remember 5 Highvista Grove? The 17 room boarding house, with no support services, in the middle of residential green belt?

Well the assessment is in, and we aren’t happy Jan.

The decision isn’t done and dusted yet – it’s been called in by our South Ward Councillors, and is due to be discussed at the next Council Meeting:

  • This Wednesday January 25th, 7pm in the Council Chamber Town Hall, Sturt Street

The council officers report can be found here (the report is contained within the agenda; the original proposal is in the attachment).

Hopefully we will get a few people there to support Michael Simpson and Garry Wood who have been leading the objection to this development, here’s how you can help:

  1. contact your local Councillors and make sure they know how you feel (contact details here)
  2. contact the other Councillors as they will also be voting (contact details here)
  3. if you wish to speak at the meeting you’ll need to register (call the Governance Unit on 5320 5535 before 2pm on the 25th)

If the council vote it down then its up to the developer to take the decision to VCAT (then the council can take the lead at VCAT). If the council vote in favour then its up to the objectors to take it to VCAT, makes it a bit more difficult but still doable.

Good Luck and see you all there.

Oh Michael Simpson has just set a meeting so contact him whether you are going or not :

Thank you to the Councillors for voting against this proposal for a rooming house in this quiet residential environmentally sensitive area.

  2. Alice Christie says:

I can’t be convinced about the commercial natural discussion-it is residential and it could b considered a village. The mumbo jumbo about amenity Impacts doesn’t hold water either. Boo hiss Council Officers
