Orphanage Site Mediation

Deb Findlay has been fighting to save what is left of the old Ballarat Orphanage. Last night the City held a mediation meeting with objectors and developers to try to come to some compromise that might respect the stories of the Forgotten Australians. Deb writes:

“We had the Ballarat Orphanage/ Children’s Home MEDIATION MEETING 22/07/2013 with the city of Ballarat and Developers. (Planning Permit Application No. PLP/2013/119) – To DEMOLISH ALL buildings except the TODDLERS BLOCK.

The meeting was held in good spirit, fantastic meeting attended by Former Residents, neighbours and the stakeholders, City of Ballarat officials, CAFS Child and Family services and members from CLAN Care Leavers Australian Network.

Many former residents were passionate sharing their views to why more buildings should be saved,  which remain on the former orphanage to the planning committee and developers attended the meeting. We can only hope the next step will be  it will now go to the City of Ballarat council meeting.

Thanks to BE Net for your support.

Deb”
