How long does it take?
We asked them when the site was sold to take care of it…
We asked them when the site was closed to take care of it…
We asked them a consultation was held to take care of it…
And each time we told them it will be vandalised please take care of it…
At the last council meeting the developer, and the council, were lambasted for not taking care of it. They had learnt their lesson they said, sorry we didn’t listen, but we are listening now…
Come to to the meeting – http://ballarateast.online/old-orphanage-demolition-order/
Here’s what is currently on the site:
And this is beside it:
Seriously how many times can we ask? How long does it take to secure save protect?
I walk past the former Damascus college several times , each day and witness the absolute disaster caused by vandals. I noted one beautiful tree near the entry of the former school, lying on it site, as if a bulldozer was used to push the tree out of the grounds. The graffiti is dreadful, so too are the many broken windows- holes in the walls. At the far end of the property, along the fence separating the retirement village with the property in question, use to stand a long row of lovely tall trees, now all gone. I witnessed the people with chainsaws cutting all of them down. It breaks your heart. Who would have thought, in regards to the former Damascus college, part of East Ballarat resembles slums. Shameful.
It has taken almost 3 years they have allowed the disrespect to this site and all items that remain and the buildings, only when they want to demolish it they now fence it off disgraceful.. When it was the orphanage there wasn’t any rubbish lying around the grounds , the place was spotless that’s because the children who lived there had respect for their home its a real pity the developers didn’t show the same respect.
