Caretaker Mode

With the City of Ballarat soon to have elections for Council, the Councillors and indeed the council itself enters what is called ‘Caretaker Mode’ during the election period. The election period is defined as being from the last day of nominations, until the election.

Dates for Ballarat will be:

  • Last day of Nominations – Tuesday, 25th September 2012
  • Election Day – Friday 26 October, 2012 (please note you can vote prior to this day)

There has been some discussion about how this might affect planning decisions. Basically it will have none. Council officers confirmed during the week that “statutory planning applications which are forwarded to Council are still able to be determined.” So its business as usual for developers and the neighbourhood…

In future posts we’ll talk to the potential councilors, what should we ask them? Please add questions as a comment below.

It seems that a lot of applications are coming in duriing this busy time of changeover for trhe Council, just like they do at Easter and Christmas holidays.
