Need the East to rise up…

We have now a date for our Community Meeting –

Sunday March 18th 2pm to 4pm

Now we need your help to get the word out, here’s how:

  1. sign up at right of screen or below..or
  2. write to info@ballarateast.net and ask to be part of the organizing group (more fun than work – promise)
  3. ask your neighbours to sign up for enews from this website (best way to get news), here’s how:
    1. get them to drop a line to info@ballarateast.net and request subscription
    2. get them to drop a line to PO Box 2116, Bakery Hill, 3354, with their email address, and request subscription
    3. get them to visit this website (ballarateast.net) and sign up at right of screen or in the footer
    4. get them to sign up at our facebook site ballarateast.net

The venue is yet to be decided, but you will find out if you are subscribed to this site.

It’s likely we will cover the following (but please add a comment below if you think there is something we have missed):

  1. Welcome to country (TBC)
  2. Introductions from panel
  3. Introductions from group reps (Pryor Park Lake Esmond, Sparrow Ground etc)
  4. Welcome to meeting, purpose, agenda & outcomes
  5. Intro to issues (BE Network)

Great that this meeting is happening so that we can discuss and share the issues that we feel passionate about in our area. I feel that it will be really important to voice the way we want the area to develop and especially the way we don’t want it to develop. We can only do that by letting our representatives know that we won’t accept the mass subdivisions that have already begun to happen and will only continue if we don’t speak up. There’s no turning back if it’s allowed to continue.

I just wonder, what is the definition of Ballarat East and do we need to start with that? Call me old-fashioned, but to me anything on this side of the creek is Ballarat East – including Golden Point and Mt Pleasant and Brown Hill. Of course the issues raised by the BE Network will probably be relevant and transferable to other places – how to go to VCAT etc, but I’d love to know others thoughts about just where Ballarat East starts and ends. Is it just the rural-y Canadian/Eureka sort of area we’re talking? All of Ballarat East is famous for its big blocks. Count me in! from Golden Point.
