News about Orphanage Site
Recently Deb Findlay, Forgotten Australian, received this newsletter regarding the old orphanage site. She and other ex-residents of the home were justifiably unhappy that it was called the Old Damascus site (its last ten years), rather than the Old Orphanage site to reflect the importance of the site, and the fact it was an orphanage for over 120 years prior to being the school.
The newsletter goes on to talk a little bit about the future planning for the site, a little bit about the Avenue of Honour that was destroyed and other interesting tidbits. Here is the email as a picture file, so its a little hard to read. If anyone can forward a PDF then we can make that available too. The Council has said they will be sending out a general letter to residents around the site sometime next week.
Don’t forget the rally tomorrow.
am friends with a resident of the orphanage. he is heart broken to learn of the fate of his home. he has a great passion for this site. he attended the rally yesterday, not an easy feat for a man of 82 with limited mobility and vision! hopes that the toddlers building will be preserved. he has no other place to call home from his childhood.
