Pryor Park Management Plan
2011 Pryor Park Management Plan – by Jonathan Robinson
This Management Plan was written as part of the required studies for the completion of a Diploma of Ornamental Horticulture. The area of Pryor Park offered me an exciting chance to engage in a very interesting and positive line of research, out of which I was able to create a future vision for the park and make recommendations based on that vision for its ongoing sound management.
To complete this Plan my research brought me into contact with the main stakeholders in the park; these being, the City of Ballarat, the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) and the People for Pryor Park, all of which I would like to acknowledge again for their contributions and assistance during the compilation of this study.
It was quickly established through my research that Pryor Park has and continues to play a strong role in the overall character and liveability of Ballarat East, with its geographical positioning sitting on the eastern outskirts of Ballarat East, situated precisely in the middle of a critical urban bottle-neck within the North-South Ballarat Region Wildlife Corridor.
This Plan highlights that although the park’s geographical positioning presents the park with many challenges for its ongoing management of native flora and fauna, its positioning also presents it with many golden opportunities for Community Education based around conservation issues, Passive Recreation which also revolve around conservation values and the continued enhancement of the Ballarat East’s character and liveability.
