Visiting Heritage

Hi everyone at Ballarat East Network

This week I had the opportunity to visit Ballarat East Fire Station with David, who I found via this BE Net group. David was a fantastic tour guild and I thank him for his time and knowledge, we learnt a lot.. Here are some photos of BEFS (Ballarat East Fire Station).

The reason for my visit was that I’m a community care worker who supports small groups of socially isolated seniors to access venues and activities of their choice in our local community. I currently have 2 men over 70 years old that are very interested in looking and learning about how things are made, work, put together and history. I’m always looking for new places so if anyone has a company or suggestion of places please message me. Thanks again David.

    Hi Chris,
Just interested in whether your plans for the walking tour have developed any further. Not sure what your emphasis will be but would love to learn more. Thanks, Ailsa.

    Dear David and Wendy

This looks fantastic I would love to have a tour if ever there is another opportunity. I live in Melbourne but Im in Ballarat on a regular basis. I and my sister (who likes in Ballarat East) operate a B&B in Eureka Street. Apart from a general interest in history and specifically Ballarat East I am working on providing a history walking tour (of the immediate area) for our guests who may find it an interesting activity. So I am interested in improving my own limited knowledge of the area and its many features.

I am also collecting a list of interesting things to do/see in the area that are not the obvious ‘show ponies’ like Sovereign Hill etc. Is the station open for public viewing and if so what days or hours? I am sure many people would be interested to take a look. Ive walked past the station many times and had no idea it has such a fabulous collection.

    Regards
    Chris Cody

Chris, we don’t normally open except for bigger groups. We will be open on heritage weekend 2015 and also possibly CFA Sunday later this year. If you want any specific details about the history email me at elmshort@gmail.com and I will give you some answers.

Wendy, I enquiries about the motor in the Dodge. That was the motor that was in it when it was delivered to the old CFA Worksop. No one can tell me any more than that.
