Worldwide still

Thought a quick report on the meeting for the project we mentioned here, (worldwide pilot program to roll out UNESCO’s Recommendation on the Historic Urban Landscape) – was in order:

Our tour started at the old Ballarat East Library in Barkly St. From there it was easy to point out the old fire station, the street scape and style of housing.

Then we went to the old Ballarat East Town Hall Gardens, that we feel no one knows nor really cares about. In such a sad state and because the school is there people are not aware of whether they can use it.We would love to see this area promoted by council to enable residents and visitors to use this could be beautiful area.

From there we went to Warrenheip Trail, the Tammy fence in Eureka Street, MADE, Canadian State Forest, York Street, Rodier Street… and we told stories about the area. A favourite comment by the panel was to the question where is the best view in Ballarat East. Diane answered ‘Out my front door.’

The group has been reading what you have had to say about what we value here in the east:

And all this has contributed to a new category at right called ‘Character of the East’ where you will find all the posts together.

Thanks so much for your comments and support, this needs to be community led, so stay in touch. And don’t forget to send us your trees for National Tree Day.
